Susan Sharp Research Notes
Came to the USA circa 1863.
Jean Saunders Davis sent me notes she had compiled on the Hunter genealogy. Among the papers was a sheet with the following information: (The sheet was not signed or dated.)
"Mary Hunter, daughter of Jas. Hunter and Margaret Gilmore was born in a place called Mary Hill, Scotland near Glascow. When she was 3 months old she was 'brot' to this country to a place in Tioga County by her father and his people. Her mother having passed away. She was raised among her father's people until the age of 17 yrs. She was married to Alex Williamson in Arnot Tioga county. To them was born 12 children 4 boys and 8 girls -- all of whom are still living except Margaret who passed away Feb. 20, 1910 at the age of 4, and Robert Bruce who passed away September 12, 1940 at the age of 50 years. Mother had passed away in the year of 1922 at the age of 60. Father passed away in the year of 1935. Both buried in Portage so is Margaret. Robert is buried in Apollo where his family resides." (The counties and cities referred to in this paper are in Pennsylvania. I believe "mother" is Mary Hunter Williamson and "father" is Alex Williamson.)
According to the notes of Matilda Hunter Saunders (July 1937), Jim was the eldest of the family and had one daughter, Mary.
