ALEX REID QUITS AS ENGINEER AFTER 44 YEARS OF RAILROADING. Alex Reid, of Cambria Street, well known engineer on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad here, has retired after serving the company the past 44 years. Announcement of his retirement, effective this month, was made today. A resident of Punxsutawney since he was six years of age, Mr.Reid is a native of Barclay, Bradford County. He started to work as a fireman with the Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railway Company here September 14, 1904.
Three years later he was made an engineer and has served in that capacity since that time, having been retained by the B. & O. when the latter company took over the B. R. & P. Mr. Reid is a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Local No. 619, the John W. Jenks Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, the Coudersport Consistory, Jefferson County Shrine Club, and the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona. He plans to spend his retirement in his home here with Mrs. Reid and their two daughters, Lois Jean and Marcia.
Mr. Reid is also the father of these sons and daughters: Samuel and William Reid and Mrs. Clark B. McLaughlin, of this city; Mrs. C. I. Parsons of Morgantown, West Virginia; and Mrs. Thomas Hastings of Canton, Ohio.
