'SHORTY' SHARP DIES EARLY TODAY AT EAST OAKWOOD AVE. HOME
Merchants' Police and Candidate for Office of County Sheriff Succumbs to Pneumonia After Illness of Two Weeks
Had Just Passed His Fifty-Third Year
Funeral Services Monday with Masonic and Eagles Fraternities Participating.
A. V. Sharp aged 53 years, merchants' policeman, known generally among his friends and acquaintances as 'Shorty' Sharp, died at 4:00 o'clock this morning at his home, 502 East Oakwood Avenue, of bronchial pneumonia, after an illness of two weeks, during the past ten days of which he wasbed fast. He had been in critical condition for several days past and had come to believe that he could not recover and prepared himself forthe end.
The death of Mr. Sharp is a surprise to many who did not realize his condition, and is regretted deeply by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. His announcement several months ago of his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for sheriff of the county, had awakened an interest throughout the county and had brought him new acquaintances.
Funeral services on Monday at 2:30 P.M. at thel ate home, with Rev. O.C. Dean of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating, and burial at Oakwood, with Masonic fraternity in charge of the committal service. Friends who wish to call at the home before the funeral may do so on Sunday afternoon.
Andrew Vance Sharp was born at Zaleski, Vinton County, Ohio, on March 8th, 1859 and lived to the age of 53 years and 10 days. He was the son of Ezra Sharp, deceased, and Mary (Cobo) Sharp, living. He was one of a family of seven children, six of whom survive. He was reared in Vinton County and came to Bucyrus 30 yuears ago, as a railroad employee, first as a brakeman and then as a freight conductor on the T. & O. C., where he worked for 14 years. He was successively employed afterward on the Bucyrus police force as patrolman for eight years, was salesman forthe Dostal Products Co. for two and one-half years, was with the Hadfield-Penfield Co., for one year, and for the past two years had seen service as merchants' police in Bucyrus.
He was married in Bucyrus on March 12, 1896 to Miss Elsie Maude Sherer of this city, who, with their two sons, Lloyd who is studying at Miami college, and Robert, a high school student here. His mother is still living at Zaleski, Ohio, and he is survived by four brothers and two sisters, Samuel Sharp of Zaleski, Charles Sharp in New Mexico, Thomas Sharp of Nelsonville, Ohio, William Sharp of Albion, Penn., Mrs. Daisy Jones of Zaleski and Mrs. Anna McCoy of Toledo.
Mr. Sharp was a member of the Masonic Fraternity here and also of the Bucyrus Aerie of Eagles. He was a worthy and respected citizen and lived an honorable life adhering to commendable principles and discharging his duties toward others with fidelity and honor. His principle interest were those of his home. He found his chief happiness in his family and his home life was ideal. In all activities he was upright and honorable and gave his best efforts. His death is a matter of sincere regret to his many friends and their sympathy is extended to the bereaved wife and son
