At the time of the wedding Rev. Granville Moody was the pastor of the Middletown Methodist Espiscopal Church, but the marriage certificate which is an exhibit here, shows him as pastor of the Hamilton church, which was indeed his next charge. It may be that he signed the document after he had changed churches. The wedding was in March, and traditionally Methodist pastors change charges in the June-July period.
During the Civil War, Rev. Moody, an avowed abolitionist, was known as the "fighting parsonz" as colonel of the 74th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
