John T. Ashenfelter, 70, 98 Clark Terrace, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, March 20, 1991, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital. The son of Norman C. and Rose Terpe Ashenfelter, he was born September 24, 1911, in DuBois. Mr.Ashenfelter was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Rossiter, having served on the church council; John W. Jenks F&AM No. 534; Coudersport Consistory; Jaffa Shrine; Jefferson County Shrine Club; Punxsutawney Country Club, where he served on the board of directors for 12 years; John Jacob Fisher Post American Legion No.62; life member of the BPOE No. 301; past president of the Punxsutawney Lions Club; Punxsutawney Groundhog Club; Corn Cob Club; and former member and secretary of John W. Jenks Memorial Foundation. He also served for 10 years as chairman of the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Punxsutawney.
A vetreran of World War 2, he served as battalion sargeant major, Headquarters Company, 14th Replacement Center, European Theater. Mr. Ashenfelter was a retired senior vice president of Keystone National Bank. Surviving are his wife, Rose Mary Senott Ashenfelter, whom he married on July 20, 1974; one brother, George, DuBois; one sister, Jane Shrauger, Winter haven, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death on September28, 1973, by his first wife, Florence Reid Ashenfelter, whom he married May 7, 1943; his parents, two sisters; Mae Headings and Ruth Shellito; and one brother, William.
Friends will be received from7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
Funeral mass will be offered at 11 a.m.Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Robert E. Vallor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Punxsutawney Library, Punxsutawney Area Hospital, or St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Mr. Ashenfelter's memory.
